What is Pro Archia?
Cicero delivered the speech in 62 BCE for Aulus Licinius Archias, a poet whose Roman citizenship was challenged. The legal issue gives the speech its courtroom frame; Cicero then widens the defense into a celebration of literary study and the cultural value of poets.
