Frequently asked questions
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Subscriptionwhile signed in and choose “Manage subscription.” This opens Stripe’s secure billing portal, where you can cancel at any time. Your access continues until the end of the period you’ve already paid for, and you won’t be charged again after that.
Do you offer refunds?
Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually and can be cancelled at any time, but charges for time already billed are not refunded. If something went wrong with a charge (a duplicate charge, a billing error), email help@librorumcapsula.com and we’ll sort it out.
What’s the difference between a free and a paid account?
A free account lets you read every free book in full, save progress, build a shelf, keep up to 10 notebook entries, and earn badges. A paid subscription unlocks every book in the library in full and removes the notebook limit. See the full breakdown on the pricing section of the homepage.
What data do you collect, and why?
Your email and password (for your account), the reading progress, notebook entries, and community posts you create while using the app, and basic billing records from Stripe (Librorum Capsula does not see or store your card number). See the full Privacy Policy below for details.
How do I delete my account and my data?
Email help@librorumcapsula.com from the address on your account and ask for it to be deleted. We’ll remove your account, reading progress, notebook entries, and community posts within 30 days, except where we’re required to keep billing records for tax or legal purposes.
Who moderates the community discussion boards?
Librorum Capsula does. See the Terms & Community Guidelines page for the rules that apply to posts, and the moderation and reporting process.
Is Librorum Capsula affiliated with a school or publisher?
No. Librorum Capsula is an independent project, not affiliated with any school, university, or textbook publisher. Texts in the library are drawn from public-domain editions and original teaching material; each book page credits its source.
How do you make sure the Latin text is actually accurate?
Most Latin available online has never been checked by a human against the actual page. It usually comes from optical character recognition (OCR), which makes the same predictable mistakes on old typefaces — misreading rn as m, cl as d, dropping or merging word-spaces — and because Latin endings carry the grammar, one dropped letter can turn a word into a different one and change what a sentence means. Macrons (the long-vowel marks that show meter and grammatical form) are usually missing entirely or added by an automated macronizer, which reliably gets certain forms wrong — for example it can’t distinguish two words that are spelled identically except for one vowel’s length, or it marks a vowel long because of the letters after it rather than because the vowel is actually long by nature. And since most sites and apps copy the same handful of public-domain digitizations, one uncorrected error ends up mirrored across dozens of sources, which makes it look confirmed rather than wrong.
Every text in this library is checked line by line against an actual photographed page of a specific, named edition, not just re-run through better software. Every correction is logged with the original misreading, the verified reading, and the reasoning, so it’s auditable rather than a silent edit. Macrons are then applied by hand using the real rule — is this vowel long by its own nature, not by what follows it — and every macronized passage is run through a mechanical check that strips the macrons back off and confirms it still matches the verified text word for word before it’s allowed to ship. Every word also gets a gloss written for what it actually means in that specific sentence, not a generic dictionary headword — a word can have a dozen senses and only one is right in context. It’s slower than pulling text from an existing site and calling it done, but it’s the only way we can stand behind what’s on the page.
Privacy Policy
This policy describes what information Librorum Capsula collects when you use the site, how it’s used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information: your email address and a hashed password when you register. We never store your password in plain text.
Usage data: your reading progress, notebook entries, shelf, placement and Iter answers, badges, and (if you use them) community posts and reports. This is the data the app needs to function — to resume where you left off, track your progress, and show your saved words.
Billing data: if you subscribe, payment is handled entirely by Stripe. Librorum Capsula never receives or stores your card number; we keep only a Stripe customer/subscription reference and your subscription status.
Session cookies:a single cookie identifies your signed-in session so you don’t have to log in on every page. We don’t use third-party advertising or analytics cookies, and Librorum Capsula does not run any third-party analytics or tracking scripts.
How we use this information
To operate your account, save and display your reading progress and notebook, process subscription payments through Stripe, run the community discussion boards (including moderation and abuse reports), and respond to support requests you send us.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties except the service providers that make the app work: Stripe (payments) and Railway (application hosting and the database). Both process data only as needed to provide their service to us.
Your choices
You can update your account details from your profile, cancel your subscription at any time from the Stripe billing portal, and request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing help@librorumcapsula.com. We’ll process deletion requests within 30 days, except where we’re legally required to retain billing records.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Librorum Capsula after a change means you accept the updated policy.

The service
Librorum Capsula is a Latin-reading library and learning tool. A free account gives access to the free portion of the library and core features; a paid subscription unlocks the full library. We may add, remove, or change books, features, and pricing over time.
Eligibility
Librorum Capsula is intended for users age 13 and older. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.
Your account
You’re responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account. You must provide an accurate email address, since it’s used for account recovery and important notices.
Subscriptions and billing
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance through Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal; your access continues through the end of the period already paid for. Charges for time already billed are not refunded, including partial months or years. We may change subscription pricing going forward; existing subscribers will be notified before a price change takes effect on their next renewal.
Community content
If you use the community discussion boards, additional rules apply — see the Terms & Community Guidelinespage. You keep ownership of what you post, but you’re responsible for it, and we may remove content or restrict access to keep the service lawful and usable.
Acceptable use
Don’t attempt to bypass access controls or subscription limits, scrape or redistribute the library’s texts and glosses at scale, interfere with the service’s operation, or use the service for any unlawful purpose.
Disclaimer
Librorum Capsula is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. We work to keep translations, glosses, and difficulty ratings accurate, but they may contain errors and shouldn’t be relied on as authoritative scholarship or professional advice.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Librorum Capsula and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Changes and termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. We may update these terms from time to time; if we make a material change, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
